Over the course of the year, there are plenty of small chores that homeowners can do quickly and easily to maintain their home and keep an eye out for any potential maintenance or repair services that may start and end with Atencio’s Construction & Landscape.

Regularly Rid Your Home of Dust

In Colorado, the air is dry and the dust is plentiful year-round. Even with snow on the ground, dust particles often settle on indoor furniture and surfaces, tampering with air quality and your family’s health. If dust is not properly taken care of on a regular basis, it can also accumulate and leave your home at risk of unwanted and costly damages. At Atencio’s Construction & Landscape, we specialize in home improvement projects, home repair, landscaping solutions, roofing, and much more. If you have a job to do, chances are our team can get it done right the first time. But taking care of your space takes more than just a phone call whenever damage happens. When it comes to dust, focus on your air vents and be sure to change out air filters monthly or bimonthly to assure your family’s indoor air quality is good and that your home’s HVAC system runs smoothly.

Watch For Weeds and Debris In the Winter

This applies to yards and gutter systems alike. The winter months bring storms, precipitation, and winds that can cause debris to build up in gutters and exterior corners of your home. After the snow melts and the ground dries, be sure to attend to chores like gutter cleaning or basic sweeping and raking even if there are not fall leaves or springtime weeds on the ground. These basic maintenance practices can help avoid any damage to your home’s exterior and maintain your yard’s quality. On the roof, your gutters are  the key to water properly flowing off the side of a rooftop, and if they’re clogged up, water can accumulate and stand on the roof. This can eventually lead to costly leaks.

Don’t Let Your Pipes Freeze

This is a specific problem to the winter months, but it’s important to keep your home’s interior temperature above 55 degrees in order to avoid pipes freezing. Freezing pipes often lead to cracks, which can then cause leaks in other parts of your home. These are also expensive problems to fix and are best to avoid by maintaining your thermostat at a minimum of 58 degrees, even when you’re not home, just in case.
